CHANCE MET ME ON CHRISTMAS EVE
Chance met me on Christmas eve and shared an idea over beer
About an opportunity to speed away from nonsense that spills to floor from mouths on gilded champagne flutes
The smell of an untouched world lying in wait
The prospect of a walk among clouds swollen with rain
To watch the birth of sunlight over snow capped peaks
To peer over precarious precipices without a parachute
A swim in glacial milk over a bed of time-smoothened pebbles
A saunter through virgin forest glades and flower beds
Where birdsong is undisturbed by traffic snarls
Be that as it may it could have been just another ordinary day
But the hands smiled at thoughts wordlessly taking shape
The legs quivered with trembling anticipation
To experience purity with every rejuvenating breath
