PRAISE THE DENTAL SURGEON (adapted from the song on the colorectal surgeon)
A good friend of mine sent me a video of The Colorectal Surgeon Song by Canadian musical comedy duo Bowser and Blue and suggested writing lyrics from a dental perspective. It took me two weeks of intermittent writing between play practices, dental college examinations and my dental practice to come up with the following. Hope to put it to song and record a youtube video soon.
We praise the lowly dental surgeon
misunderstood and much maligned
toiling away after years of study
Brave in the face of words unkind
Respect the lowly dental surgeon
He's the one you'll meet some day
Working hard with tools of torture
Steady is the hand that fights decay
Be kind to the lowly dental surgeon
He is one of the bravest who
Hopes that you won’t bite his fingers
Fixing you up so you can chew
When it comes to spreading fear he starts with Open wide
And when he picks that iron hook the terror starts inside
You may think when he's smiling that he's criminally insane
But only the dental surgeon knows the pleasure from your pain
Respect the lowly dental surgeon
it's a calling of the brave
concentrating on the effort
when he's got a tooth to save
Why choose to be a dental surgeon
it's one of those mysterious things
Is it because in that profession
There are always openings
Don't curse the lowly dental surgeon
when you find that you can't chew
Spare a thought for his daily grind
For after all he has fillings (feelings) too
He sailed through dental school he became familiar with the drill
And then he learnt what followed was the fill, the pill and bill
A dentist he wanted to be more than everything
His bride thought he worked too much cos she didn't feel a thing
We praise the lowly dental surgeon
misunderstood and much maligned
toiling away after years of study
Brave in the face of words unkind
