BEING HUMAN
Fly on the wall sheltered for a while
minding its business just taking rest,
Down comes the honeycombed plastic bat
Fly sans life appears a little fat
Its only human to add skill to a kill
Ants in a line marching for food
Staccato motion as only ants could
Smack comes the boot, hard against pine
Ants remain still, still in a line
One giant step for mankind
A Beetle hits a wall
lies on the floor with legs in the air
Sprayed with a chemical shower
the beetle withdraws, becomes smaller
Acid rain killing slower
Butterfly in maiden flight
flits merrily from flower to flower
The net swoops and butterfly traps
Beautiful forever with wings spread
A displayed human attraction
Ours to do just as we please
sitting atop the food chain
No questions asked about
who we kill for treasure
the pleasures being human
