2017 UNDER THE BRIGHT LIGHTS

Lights!

Bright white spots

Floods the stage. Blinding light

I am born and I dance

I live for the lights

My friend joins me

We move noiselessly for I can't speak

The movement rehearsed a hundred times

Hands and legs in co-ordinated action

Head nodding this way and that

What do I have in my hand today?

A knife!

I see it gleaming

It lies clasped in my hand

Its edge as black as me

The knife begins its downward spiral

Directed towards the heart

The knife intent on drawing life

An arc of death that concludes in a scream

Light out! A thunderous applause

But alas I am unnoticed

Shadows do not get accolades

Shadows only live when there is light
