2017 STILLNESS ON THE TERRACE

Seven shadows on the top of a house

One moves and six are still

back and forth flits one shadow

While others wait their turn

Patiently. As the light dims around them

The air and leaves stirring gently

The shadows do not move

though their shapes are getting longer

Impatience breaks the stillness

Two jump

Short shapes, bouncing their feet

bursting with emotion

bursting with motion

Explosive. Jerky movements

like siamese twins

Four legs,  one body

Four hands,  one head

Another shadow joins from the dark

Three bodies moving poetically

Spinning, swaying, swooning rhythmically

Six hands, Six legs

Stuck to the terrace floor

within boundaries outlined in white chalk

The stage where they will soon perform

Oblivious, Oblivious as the evening still wears on
